Growing up in a small Midwest town in South Dakota, I quickly developed a passion for many things; skate boarding, heavy metal, punk rock, all-things-horror, and toys. My love for music eventually thrust me into live music booking and production, as well as being a touring musician. After 30 years in the music industry I decided I needed a change which eventually lead me to diligently pursue a degree in, and work as, a respiratory therapist. Helping others in any capacity has always been a part of who I am and I went on to achieve that in the hospital through my respiratory degree. That said, I found that 40 years of my ever-growing sea of toys and collectibles was also calling to me! I initially starting doing comicons and horror conventions and eventually turned my exterior garage into a a makeshift store for a very short time. I was surprised by the popular demand and how people embraced my love of toys, and I knew that I needed to give people more. So, as a former musician, turned respiratory therapist, husband, dog dad, toy and so-many other-things-obsessed, guy, I decided to open my own store in downtown Lawrence on Massachusetts Street, hence the evolution of 1313 Mockingbird Lane Toys and Collectibles.
1313 Mockingbird Lane Toys and Collectibles opened our doors for the first time in February of 2019. We are currently located in the heart of downtown Lawrence at 1021 1/4 Massachusetts St., Lawrence, KS 66044. As the huge horror, metal, and 80s toy collector that I am, you can expect to find everything from modern to vintage toy collectibles; G.I. Joe, Transformers, DC, Marvel, Freddy, Jason, Leatherface, Cenobites, Hello Kitty, and everything to infinity and beyond. In addition to toys and collectibles you never know who may be stopping by to visit. Sometimes it’s Eddie Munster, Pinhead, or Black Stone Cherry! Right now the store front is open to the public Thurs-Sat 11-7, Sun 12-5.
